Council vote postpones Avenue project

Posted

With a unanimous vote on Thursday evening the Town Council rejected all bids for the Avenue of the Fountains improvement project and decided to postpone the work.

In making a motion to reject the bids, Councilman Dennis Brown said he was disappointed in the amount of the bids and he believes the tight time schedule for the project may have influenced the higher-than-expected bids.

His motion included the provision to rebid the project early next year so construction could be timed to begin in April.

The low bidder was J.E. Bowen Construction, LLC for $1.4 million. There were three other bidders.

Brown, a general contractor by profession, said he believes the project can be done for about $1.2 million.
