Older adults focus of new guide
Posted
The Town of Fountain Hills Fire Department prepares for all sorts of disasters that would affect Fountain Hills and its residents.
With its wide range of resources, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has created the Disaster Preparedness Guide for Older Adults to help seniors be prepared in the event of an emergency, which the local fire department has made available on the Town of Fountain Hills website.
The information and resources in the guide were developed by leaders who support older adults participating at FEMA’s Disaster Preparedness and Older Adults National Summit, held in Philadelphia, Pa., in July 2023.
FEMA learned from these experts what preparedness information and resources older adults need and how to deliver these messages effectively.
Residents are encouraged to use the worksheets and checklists in this guide to create their own plan, then add it to their emergency kit or put it on the refrigerator as a visible reminder of preparedness.
