The Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church will hold a week-long celebration of its 50th anniversary from Sunday, Oct. 20 to Sunday, Oct. 27.
Worship services on the two Sundays will begin at 10 a.m. instead of the usual 9 a.m.
Several former pastors have been invited to participate in the Oct. 20 service followed by a catered brunch for the church family in Fellowship Hall.
Reservations for this event are required by Friday, Oct. 11, and may be made by phoning the church office at 480-837-1763 or through the website at fhpresbyterian.info.
Following brunch on Sunday, Oct. 20, a free concert will be held at the church at 2 p.m. and open to the public when musical staff members Debbie Fisher and Dorothy Parris are planning a musical and photographic presentation to remind the congregation of its past activities and notable members.
Several artifacts will be on display at the church such as the barstool that the late Rev. Glenn Atchinson used when the congregation initially began meeting in Little John’s Bar, photos of past ministers, the ground-breaking shovel made when the church began building its facility and the Raggedy Ann quilt made by several church women to celebrate the church’s 20th anniversary in 1994, according to a press release.
A western-themed roundup celebration will be held Thursday, Oct. 24, at the FHPC Corral beginning at 4 p.m.
For this event, church family members are invited to wear Western apparel and participate in corn hole, a putting green contest and giant Jenga.
There will be a drawing for six $30 certificates to DJ’s Bagel Café and food trucks will begin serving hot dogs, baked beans, salad, Diet Coke and ice cream at 5 p.m. while attendees are entertained with live music.
The finale for the week-long anniversary celebration will be Sunday, Oct. 27, with the worship service at 10 a.m. followed by a catered brunch for the church family in the Fellowship Hall.
The Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church was founded in 1974 by Rev. Atchinson, brother-in-law of Fountain Hills’ first homeowner, Sally Atchinson.
Plans for the celebration involve many church members who serve on various committees to bring about the planned activities for the week.
Reservations are mandatory by Friday, Oct. 11, for those planning to attend the brunches.
