Peaks Women get into holiday spirit

Four Peaks Women’s Club is feeling the “spirit” and has once again decorated Christmas trees for those families dealing with children’s cancer during the holiday season.

This year, the group of ladies decorated 20 trees at the house of Joyce Stehlik, co-chairperson of the project.

Stehlik continues to get more excited each year as the project continues to grow with some members working year round on making decorations for these trees.

“We doubled our amount of trees this year, and I knew from experience that the ladies would be thrilled. It is such a tremendous and worthwhile endeavor and the families are so grateful,” states Stehlik.

In two more weeks, many of the same ladies, and additional members, will then shop for gifts for a particular family.

Four Peaks Women’s Club became involved with the Children’s Cancer Network through the efforts of Stehlik.

The Children’s Cancer Network supports Arizona children throughout their cancer journey with programs and services designed to provide financial assistance, promote education, encourage healthy lifestyles and create an awareness of issues they face related to childhood cancer.

Their goal is for each family to realize they are not alone in their fight against cancer.

Four Peaks hopes to alleviate some of the anxiety that this disease creates during the holidays.

Barb Hansen, a cancer survivor, has joined Stehlik as her co-chair.

“Cancer in all its forms is so hard to deal with, but to have to watch a child go through it is truly beyond our total comprehension,” Hansen said.

“This project exemplifies what Four Peaks Women’s Club is all about – helping others with an enthusiasm that just knows no bounds.

“We all feel privileged to be a part of this special project. These families are truly grateful, particularly at this time of year, and Four Peaks is so happy to be able to contribute.”
