The Fountain Hills Friends in the Hills social club has been active this summer despite the heat.
A “Ladies Night Out” event was held Aug. 27, where 30 local women learned how to salsa dance at the We-Ko-Pa Grille, courtesy of Real World Dance Studio in Fountain Hills.
The lessons were given by professional world class dancers Kevin Lee and Yelena Babyuk who have won several international ballroom dance competitions, according to a press release.
The monthly luncheon was held at the Community Center Wednesday, Sept. 11, when the club bowed their heads to remember those who perished 23 years ago.
The event featured lunch and a presentation by Eric McAllister of 7-5-3 Academy in Fountain Hills who discussed the do’s and don’ts when faced with a dangerous situation.
McAllister offered tips on how to be safe from home intruders and displayed several moves to escape a dangerous situation.
Other summer events include luncheons, book club meetings, coffee get-togethers, art painting classes, Mah Jongg, bridge, poker, Texas Hold’em, golf, knitting and crochet, bunco, bowling, scrabble, tennis, sip n’ swirl happy hour and go-to-lunch bunch.
Friends in the Hills looks forward to winter events like hikes, mountain biking, beading, movie and theater outings, evening socials, monthly dinners, birthday parties, shopping outings with lunch.
