Rio Verde Country Club General Manager Jay Critcher has resigned his post to accept a new job.

His last day of work in Rio Verde was July 31.

Critcher reportedly accepted a new position as general manager with DMB’s Raven Golf Club at the Verrado in the West Valley.

In comments printed in the club’s Greensheet newsletter, Critcher said he was humbled by the number of comments and well wishes he received after he made his initial announcement.

“I truly value the friendships that have been created over the past two plus decades,” Critcher said. “Rio Verde is a great place and has been a much bigger part of my life than many of you will ever realize.

“Please accept my most sincere wishes for a prosperous future at Rio Verde Country Club. Knowing the quality of people that are truly vested in the future of this great community give a calming sense of optimism about what the future will bring.”

Critcher came to Rio Verde as first assistant golf professional in 1990 and worked his way up to the general manager’s post.

He has served as head golf professional, and director of golf and marketing. He has been a PGA member for nearly 30 years, and in 2010 he received designation as a certified club manager from the Club Managers Association of America.

He took over as general manager on July 1, 2003.

Interim manager at the club is Ken Kelley of Club Resources. A search for a permanent replacement has not yet been organized.

A veteran of more than 25 years in club operations, Kelley has worked with many private clubs throughout the country and has been involved in nearly every aspect of club management, development, planning and membership marketing.

Most recently he served as general manager of the Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, Calif.

“In addition to providing interim leadership for our staff and members, Ken will perform an overall audit of our club to help us determine the best path forward including management structure, management practices and strategic direction,” said RVCA President Peg Zarlengo. “He will help us evaluate all aspects of our club, including membership options, course conditions and food and beverage service.”
