Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is reporting several complaints of fraudulent scams or con games in recent weeks.

On Monday, July 15, a resident of the 14600 block of Fairlynn Drive reported someone called them claiming to be an MCSO sergeant asking them to come downtown with identification to pay a fine for a warrant issued for missing a jury summons.

The caller used the name of an MCSO employee and provided similar phone numbers to MCSO offices. There was also a recording to ID the number as MCSO upon call back.

The victim reported the incident but did not return the phone call or make any payment. The caller was not associated with MCSO and this is a frequent scam call.

*On Wednesday, July 17, a resident of the 16900 block on Nicklaus Drive reported receiving a call from an individual claiming to be a DEA agent. The victim was told to withdraw money from her account to purchase gift cards. She was told to call back to provide the numbers from the gift cards. The victim did not comply with the request and reported the incident.

*On Tuesday, July 16, a resident reported an incident in which they had property listed on a website for sale. They received a fraudulent check for an amount in excess of the asking price. In following up with the bank the victim was told the check was fraudulent.

*On Tuesday, July 16, a subject was reported throwing rocks and traffic barricades into the street and at vehicles near Saguaro Boulevard and Paul Nordin Parkway. The subject faces charges for misdemeanor criminal nuisance. He was transported to a hospital by Fountain Hills Fire Department.

*On Thursday, July 11, a resident of the 15400 block of Mustang Drive reported finding guns and gold coins missing from his residence after returning home following an absence of 2.5 weeks. The victim believes a family member is responsible for the theft.

*On Monday, July 15, a resident reported personal property stolen from behind a business in the 13200 block of Saguaro Blvd.

*On Tuesday, July 16, a resident of the 16000 block of Tumbleweed Drive reported a package stolen from their patio.

*On Wednesday, July 17, a woman reported a camera and cell phone stolen from her residence in the 16900 block of Nicklaus Drive. The victim suspects a housekeeper.

*On Thursday, July 11, a resident of the 16400 block of Bradford Drive reported an $800 purchase made on his credit card in Jamaica. The victim did not authorize such a purchase and is uncertain how his information was compromised.

*On Thursday, July 11, a business in the 16600 block of Palisades Blvd. reported a shoplifting incident in which a subject known to have previously stolen from the store was seen placing bottles of alcohol in a backpack. When confronted the suspect dropped the backpack and fled the store.

*On Wednesday, July 17, deputies cited a suspect for shoplifting at a store in the 16600 block of Palisades Blvd. Deputies were called when the suspect was seen leaving the store with a cart full of merchandise.

*On Saturday, July 13, a resident of the 9200 block of Broken Bow reported that it appears someone had intentionally slashed a tire on her vehicle.

*Deputies stopped a vehicle near Palisades and Palomino boulevards for an equipment violation and found the driver operating the car on a suspended license. The driver was cited and the vehicle towed.

*On Friday, July 12, deputies responded with Fountain Hills Fire Department to Desert Canyon Drive, just west of Golden Eagle Blvd. for a vehicle fire. The driver reported a mechanical issue caused the vehicle to go off the road and strike the median, starting the fire which caused damage to the median and surrounding landscaping.

*On Friday, July 12, a motorist was cited for a moving violation after striking a mailbox at Fountain Hills and Kingstree boulevards.

The week of July 11 through July 17 deputies in Fountain Hills were busy with 308 incidents with 25 reports written.
