Arrest made in Verde burglaries

Posted

Maricopa County Sheriff’s detectives arrested a Glendale man in connection with several burglaries that occurred in the Verde Communities over the summer.

Detectives served a search warrant on the man’s home in Glendale on Sept. 19, and they recovered property, including eight flat-screen televisions, believed taken in the burglaries.

Marcello Fernandez, 29, was arrested and faces charges of burglary in the second degree, trafficking in stolen property, criminal trespassing and theft and control of stolen property.

A woman at the residence at the time of the warrant search, Helen Fernandez, 44, was also arrested on a possession of marijuana charge.

Sheriff’s Capt. Joe Rodriquez, commander for the Sheriff’s District 7 based in Fountain Hills, said Fernandez was originally arrested on Aug. 9 inside a residence on Lucero Drive in Tonto Verde.

He claimed at that time he was an exterminator working in the house. It was determined that he was working for a pest control company, but had no business in that particular home.

Fernandez was booked for criminal trespassing at that time and evidence collected during that arrest was used to tie him to other burglaries in the community.

Rodriquez said during the warrant search detectives recovered eight large flat screen televisions, miscellaneous jewelry and other electronic equipment.

The investigation is ongoing with deputies working to match up the recovered property with the owners.
