Fountain Hills was home to Chris Senopole and Adam Shatarsky on Monday evening as the duo of former Marines continue their trek from California to Washington, D.C., on a quest to raise awareness and funds for The Wounded Warrior Project, an organization dedicated to supporting soldiers suffering injuries physical, mental and emotional.

Starting in mid-June and hoping to complete their journey this October, Senopole and Shatarsky left for Flagstaff Tuesday morning, continuing their slow march across the country with nothing more than backpacks full of supplies and a pair of flags flapping in the wind.

Along the way, they said they have discovered that the U.S. is as friendly as they could have ever hoped, surpassing their initial funding goal within days of beginning their journey and receiving support from kind-hearted people along the way. In Fountain Hills, the guys had a chance to grab a shower and sleep in a real bed thanks to a generous resident who offered to put them up in a local hotel for the night.
