Fountain Hills Democratic Club (FHDC) meets Thursday, Oct. 10, at 5:30 p.m. at the Community Center with the formal meeting beginning at 6 p.m.
This month, FHDC will host two candidates on the Nov. 5 ballot. Greg Freeman is the Democrat candidate for Maricopa County Assessor and Heather Macre is running for re-election on the Central Arizona Water Conservation District Board (CAWCDB).
Freeman grew up in Northwest Phoenix and attended schools in the Peoria school district, according to a press release.
After getting his bachelor’s degree in math and computer science at the Colorado School of Mines, he returned to Phoenix and has primarily worked in commercial real estate.
He also serves on the North Mountain and Deer Valley zoning commissions in Phoenix and is on the board of the Bell Road Business Alliance, Black Mountain Community Alliance and Kidzchiro Foundation.
Freeman is also a member of the Bell Road Community Safety Plan and the Phoenix Police Department Business Initiative.
Freeman is passionate about finding solutions to the current issues of homelessness and housing affordability that impact people across Maricopa County, according to club spokesperson Kathy Schanus-Gohl.
Macre has represented Maricopa County on the Central Arizona Water Conservation District Board of Directors since 2012, according to the release.
Since her election, Macre has increased public engagement, created the award-winning Protect Lake Mead campaign, helped negotiate and finalize the federal and state Drought Contingency Plans and co-chaired the Power Task Force which planned a diversified and innovative portfolio including renewable sources, Schanus-Gohl said.
Macre is also a director at Fennemore PC in Phoenix where her work focuses on the areas of business litigation, healthcare and bankruptcy. Macre and her husband Steven are parents to Dorothy and four rescue dogs.
