Dudash: Responding to Stephen Gay’s letter

Posted

It is always interesting to hear from Stephen Gay, the mayor’s unofficial cheerleader. He recently highlighted a whole litany of the mayor’s purported accomplishments. Since nothing that he said was impressive, I was not impressed. See how logic works, Stephen? Sorry for the hurt feelings.

Gay’s response is what I would expect from a member of the mayor’s local political club. I am neither a member of the Republican Club nor of ROT. I speak purely as a private citizen. My role as a board member with the Sanitary District is irrelevant. That said, the mayor did collect a dozen or so signatures for me on a re-election petition. In turn, I was the only member of the Sanitary District board to officially endorse her in her last re-election campaign. (No Democrat member of the board endorsed her!) So, we’re even.

The street comment Gay made was odd. My street does need to be repaired but that is not happening anytime soon. I did participate for over a year on the Citizen Advisory Street Committee. The mayor even gave me a plaque for my service! But that didn’t put my street ahead of the line, even though the mayor’s sister lives down the road. No favoritism either way. Did you have an actual point, Stephen?

My major concern is that the mayor skated on a serious ethics charge thanks to the town’s attorney. His unprecedented dismissal of the charges was highly questionable, in my opinion. But it avoids embarrassment for the mayor during her campaign. Nice deal if you can get it!

In my view, the mayor is unethical and does not deserve to be re-elected. I am voting for her opponent as I don’t support unethical candidates. Perhaps other voters will agree. Hope that clarifies things for you, Stephen.
