Rotary Club hosts speaker
The Fountain Hills Rotary Club will host Jennifer Shaffer Merry from the Arizona Historical Society on Tuesday, Jan. 2. Merry will discuss genealogy research.
Held at the American Legion Post 58, 16837 E. Parkview Ave., the Rotary Club of Fountain Hills meets at 4 p.m. every first and third Tuesday of the month.
Fountain Hills Woodworkers Meeting
Fountain Hills Woodworkers meet Saturday, Jan. 13, for a presentation on the challenges of a “woodturning shop” in a small space.
Free to join, those interested in woodworking are invited to send an email to kim.colenso@cox.net for information on meeting time and location.
Future meetings are typically held September through May with some meetings supporting sessions for local non-profit organizations.
Any non-profits with woodworking needs should contact the club with their needs. One project completed by the club were the picnic tables in the Community Garden. The garden group provided the materials and the club built them at no charge.
American Legion Post 58 hosts weekly events
American Legion Post 58 hosts weekly events that are open to the public, including Bingo every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Luv That Tune Band will perform at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29 and Karaoke with Kim and Deb will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30.
Events are held at the American Legion Post 58, 16837 E. Parkview Ave. The community is invited to attend.
Community Center Contract Bridge winners posted
Contract bridge is played every Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Community Center. Membership in the Community Center is required to participate.
Winners from Dec. 15 include Bobbie Watton in first place, Joanne Arneson in second place and Doug Stewart in third place.
Winners from Dec. 20 include Ray McGinley in first place, Luverne Parrish in second place and Clifford King in third place.
Botanical Garden seeks volunteers
The Fountain Hills Desert Botanical Garden is looking for volunteers to join its cause to keep the trail in good condition for all to use.
The summer heat affects the local plants, trees and shrubs with many Saguaro cacti snapping off and agaves dying from their centers, requiring stewardship from the community to keep the trail accessible to all.

Take Off Pounds Sensibly welcomes newcomers
Anyone looking for weight-loss support and to start or continue their journey of weight-loss is invited to join TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Fountain Hills chapter every Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Chapter meetings are held at Joy Church, 13430 N. Saguaro Blvd. Use the front entrance of the church and follow the signs.
Al-Anon holds regular meetings
Al-Anon family meetings are held each Saturday from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in the classroom building.
The only requirement to attend is that there be a problem of alcoholism in a relative or friend. Attendees will find hope as members share their experiences, strength and hope.
Shepherd of the Hills is located at 16150 E. El Lago Blvd.
