Plencner: Ignore the noise and let the election decide

Posted

Politics is now officially a blood sport. I took time over my morning coffee to catch up on the letters to the editor published in the Times Independent and have concluded thusly: Of the half dozen recent letters, most were from those who hold a minority view in our town.

With their “hair on fire,” the writers loudly proclaim Trump, Alex Kolodin, mayoral candidate Gerry Friedel, council candidates Matt Corrigan and Rick Watts are evil, misinformed, dangerous, out of step or a threat to our democracy. On a good day the views of these high-volume writers represent opinions held by a minority of the voters. They are far-left individuals, several who show up regularly at Town Council meetings and often are disruptive to conducting the peoples’ business.

Please do not put much stock in the hyperbole thrown around by these highly partisan individuals. We are a better town and a better people than what is penned by these individuals. Instead of engaging in character assassination, maybe the writers would like to offer constructive criticism and put forth ideas for improvement.

Many of us have spent a great deal of personal time working as volunteers to make Fountain Hills the wonderful community it is. As for elected officials and who is best suited to lead, it's time for some changes. The people will determine who governs as they go to the polls over the next few weeks. In America we vote, the majority wins, and the world will not stop spinning if there are changes in leadership in Fountain Hills or in Washington.
